  1. Rationale

We pride ourselves on all of our achievements at Minerva Primary School.  Our pride in our school extends to our school uniform.  A school uniform provides many benefits linked to safeguarding, community identify, cost, personal appearance and self-esteem. This policy has been developed in accordance with guidance from Department for Education.

  1. Uniform
  • Royal blue crew neck sweatshirt/ jumper/cardigan (embroidered school logo is optional)
  • White polo shirt (embroidered school logo is optional)
  • Grey trousers/shorts, pinafore dress or skirt, blue checked (Gingham) summer dress
  • Black, grey or navy socks or navy or grey tights.
  • Suitable black footwear – shoes or trainers (not high boots) – See section 5.
  • Royal blue book bag
  • All year groups should bring PE kits on the relevant day and change in school.

  1. P.E kit
  • Yellow T-shirt and plain shorts (black, navy or royal blue).
  • Pupils can wear short leggings.
  • Navy or black tracksuit/legging trousers can also be worn instead of shorts.
  • Sports trainers are needed for PE.
  • PE kit must be brought to school in a labelled bag.
  • Swimming: Close fitting swimwear: trunks or single piece costume) for relevant year groups.
  • Long hair will need to be ‘tied up’ with the use of hairbands.

  1. Expectations

4.1       It is expected that school uniform will be worn daily. In exceptional circumstances, parents may contact the school to discuss the requirements.

4.2       All clothing and bags should be clearly marked with a child’s name.

4.4       Pupils may be exempt from wearing school uniform if the school deems it appropriate to wear more suitable clothing e.g. outdoor clothing for forest school activities. The school will provide parents notice of a change to uniform.

4.5       On school trips, unless the school states otherwise, it will be expected that the pupils will wear a school jumper or polo shirt.

4.6       The school will provide a main supplier for the uniform, and this can be signposted from the school’s website.  Second-hand uniform is available on request.

4.7       Hair & Accessories: The school recognises that pupils’ hair is personal to them. The school welcomes families to support their child to have an individual hair style whilst considering its appropriateness to the learning environment. This includes appropriateness of hair accessories.

4.8      Jewellery: for health and safety reasons we do not allow children to wear jewellery; the wearing of earrings is also discouraged in school. If parents opt for their child to wear earrings, they must be small plain gold/silver studs only. Children are required to remove any items during PE lessons to prevent them from causing injury. Please note: Teachers are not permitted to remove earrings. Jewellery items of religious significance must be agreed by the school in advance.

4.9       Make-up: No make-up is permissible in school, including on non-uniform days.

4.10     Watches: Wristwatches may be worn to school. Where these watches have the capability to interact and receive notifications, these settings should be switched off in school hours (8:40am – 3:15pm) and during before and after-school clubs.

4.11     Hijabs are permitted to be worn in school; they must be plain black, grey, royal blue or white, in keeping with the school uniform. If a different colour is considered appropriate to mark a religious celebration, parents should contact the school in advance.
