Dear Year 1 parents and carers,
Your children have been working extremely hard every day with learning phonics and reading to get ready for our upcoming Phonics Screening Check. As mentioned at parents evening, the Phonics Screening Check is a requirement that all Year 1 children across the nation take part in.
During the week beginning Monday 9th June 2025, Year 1 pupils across the nation will be completing their Phonics Screening Check. This is designed to check if they have learnt how to phonetically decode/read words to an appropriate standard.
The Year 1 team at Minerva have been working relentlessly to support the children with their phonics throughout the year and I am so impressed at the progress our children have made. However, to ensure maximum success, they will need extra support at home.
I would like to invite all parents/carers in for a Phonics Screening Check meeting on Thursday 8th May 2025 at 3:30pm.
It is important that all parents/carers attend this meeting. If you cannot attend this meeting, please let me know at the earliest opportunity.
In the meantime, please continue supporting your children with their reading. At this stage in the year, it is important that your child is reading every day and this is being recorded in their reading records.
I look forward to seeing you all on Thursday.
Many thanks,
Miss Brooke
